About Melissa

I have been an ASHA-certified Speech-Language Pathologist for over ten years. As a former elementary teacher, I have dedicated my entire professional journey to serving the pediatric population. I have had the opportunity to work across diverse clinical settings, including early intervention, elementary & middle schools, sensory clinics, as well as teletherapy. My special interests include preschool language delays and speech sound disorders in early elementary children as well as literacy intervention.
While I gain more experience working with children, my enthusiasm for discovering new methods to support my clients only grows. I am constantly broadening my knowledge of therapeutic techniques and strategies as the world of Speech & Language evolves. This year, I have completed training in the Orton-Gillingham approach to literacy, based on the growing research that shows children with developmental language delays and speech sound disorders struggle with reading proficiency. With this training I am uniquely qualified to support my clients in both oral and printed language.
As a mom of two (one of which was a late talker), I have become a better speech therapist because I am able to put myself in the shoes of the parent. So many emotions go into the 'therapy journey'; finding a therapist that not only fits the individualized needs of your child but meshes well with your family can be overwhelming and stressful. I know that building a solid rapport with the child AND the family is the key to success. I truly enjoy crafting tailored, engaging therapy sessions to enhance communication skills and build confidence in young learners.
